Teresa Wu studied Human Sciences and Clinical Neurosciences at University College London and Institute of Neurology UCL, graduated with an MSc in 1999. She studied oligodendrocyte re-myelination models in multiple sclerosis at Imperial College London, before taking up a Trainee Clinical Biochemist position at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 2001. In 2004 she moved to Great Ormond Street Hospital as a Highest Specialist Trainee to specialise in Paediatric Biochemistry and Inborn Errors of Metabolism.

Teresa moved to Manchester in 2008 as Principal Clinical Scientist at the Willink Biochemical Genetics Laboratory. She was appointed as Head of Newborn Screening & Metabolites Section and Deputy Director of Willink Laboratory in 2012, then Director of the Willink Laboratory in 2019. 

With long standing experience in the application of tandem mass spectrometry in the screening, diagnosis and monitoring of inborn errors of metabolism, biochemical diagnosis of Niemann Pick disease type C, Teresa is now working on a pre-pilot Newborn Screening study on mucopolysaccharidoses, with an interest in newborn screening of lysosomal storage diseases. 

Teresa was Secretary of the UK Newborn Screening Laboratory Network from 2015-2018. She has teaching commitments for Trainee Midwifes at the University of Salford, and for the Paediatric Biochemistry module on the MSc Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Manchester.
