The services provided by the Genomic Diagnostic Laboratories (GDL) within the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine are accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 15189 standards (reference number 9865). The scope of our accredited services can be found here.
Some FISH tests may exceed the manufacturer’s expiry date and are performed outside the scope of accreditation; the test, however, is performed to the same internal quality control standards and procedures and results may be confirmed with alternative FISH probes or by other testing pathways.
The laboratory conforms to the best practice guidelines of the Association for Clinical Genetic Science (ACGS).
The laboratories take part in relevant external quality assessment schemes:
To report the correct genetic diagnosis on the correct patient in an appropriate timeframe using reliable and accurate tests utilising the most relevant technology, and to communicate that diagnosis to the correct clinician in the most effective way.
The turnaround times for our laboratory services can be found on the relevant Manchester GDL service profiles.
The GDL and the Trust comply with the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and take all possible care to maintain security and confidentiality of personal data. Further details are available here.
Both the GDL and the Clinical Genetics service are committed to continual improvement and welcome feedback on our services from both healthcare professionals and patients which can be sent to the GDL Quality Manager or the Clinical Director at:
