Dr Audrey Smith studied medicine at Liverpool University and worked for a year in Brisbane, Australia, where she gained clinical experience in adult general surgery and general adult medicine. On her return, she undertook a post-graduate training programme in paediatrics at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and gained MRCPCH on 2001. She subsequently worked in neonatology at Jessops Hospital in Sheffield and as a middle-grade paediatrician at Rotherham District General Hospital. She moved to Clinical Genetics in 2003 and completed the specialist training programme at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester.
Dr Smith was appointed to Consultant Clinical Geneticist at Leeds Teaching Hospital in 2007 where she specialised in prenatal genetics, as well as paediatric and adult genetics. She is currently undertaking a Post Graduate Certificate in Genomic Medicine at Manchester University. She commenced her Consultant post at Central Manchester Foundation Trust in June 2016.
