Heather graduated in Medical Sciences in 1984 followed by an MPhil which she obtained in 1986. She joined the Cytogenetics Laboratory in Manchester 1987 and attained FRCPath in 2004. Heather is a Principal Clinical Scientist in the Constitutional Genetics section with responsibility for cytogenetics and molecular cytogenetics services.
Heather has a long standing interest in training and is Training Officer for the Genomic Diagnostics Laboratory. Heather has been a member of the ACC Education and Training Committee and was involved in establishing the ACC course for trainee clinical scientists and in setting up the ACC/CMGS Training Programme for Genetic Technologists. She has responsibility for managing the implementation of the Modernising Scientific Careers training programmes within the laboratory.
She is an external assessor for the Association of Clinical Scientists and is also a member of the UKCCNEQAS panel of assessors.
