This will depend on the reason you have been seen in clinic. You will receive a letter summarising the clinic discussion. This takes the pressure off having to remember everything that was covered. A copy of this letter will usually be sent to your GP and the referring doctor so that they are aware of our plan.
We may ask you to obtain some further information about your family history before we can assess your own risk accurately.
You may be offered a follow-up appointment, however this depends on the reason you were referred. If genetic testing has been arranged, you may have a further appointment to discuss the results.
You will be given a telephone number so that you can contact the clinician you have seen if you have any further questions.
For certain genetic conditions, we have a Genetic Family Register Service. This lets us stay in contact with you in the long term. If this is relevant to you, it will be discussed in clinic.
